Solo time...

For those of you who don't know anything about pilots, getting your license, or flying for that matter-when I refer to solo time, this does actually mean-me and the plane...that's it!!! I have to build a total of 10 hours of solo flight time as one of the many requirements in retrieving my private pilot's license. I literally have been in awe with each of these solo flights. I know my instructor would die if he knew that the other day I snuck my camera in the plane with me and shot a video and some pics!! It is just amazing, I wanted to share it with all of you. I have always been religious and spiritual, but flying has truly strengthened my walk with my Savior. I'm not talking in the way of praying to God every time I'm up that nothing go wrong or plead with him to help me get this thing landed, but more along the lines of a peace with Him. I am in awe of His creations, and so much more aware of the details He took time to create. Flying has been such a blessing lately, with the sad news of yet another baby cousin of mine passing away, the anger I feel is lifted and replaced with a peace for an hour at a time as I build my solo time. I am hoping to gain an understanding to the ciaos and pray I will have the words to console my dear friend Sara.

Here is a pic to prove its just me in the little two-seater plane!!!!

Here is the video I took. I was trying to get the entire panel in the shot to show various instruments to Blake. I also was doing some turns for you guys and then show at the end that its just me in there!! Haha It is too loud in there for you to hear my radio calls and narration but I think its a cool video anyhow :)

Japanese Zero

This thing is crazy!!! I took this picture a few weeks ago when we were in Houston. This very plane came to the airport back when I worked at the flight school. The people who own it flew in and took a course with us and while they were there I was able to fly in it!! What an experience! I pulled my first G in this bomber...how cool! I had always told Blake about it and when we went to Hooks airport while in town, there she was again!! This very plane appeared in the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! I just cannot imagine seeing many of these flying overhead during war. I am so thankful I was able to enjoy this plane without it's past intentions. I am searching for the picture I have from when I flew in it...I'll post it as soon as I find it.

Day Light Savings!!!

Woohoo!! I am so excited about day light savings!! This means more FLYING!!! I will now have one whole hour extra to devote to my flying lessons during the week! This picture was what I was looking at on Saturday morning on the way to a breakfast fly-in. Isn't God's handiwork amazing!! Those of you who know me, know that I find my spirituality in some of the most random places...flying is one of them. I guess it comes from the childlike way of thinking, that if I am this close to the clouds, I am closer to God! It sounds so funny, but as a child, you associate heaven and God with the sky and clouds...I guess I still do :) It has been so beautiful lately that I just hear the sky calling my name!! I am so blessed that I get to enjoy this earth from a bird's eye view!! Thank you God!!

Breakfast with the Birds!!

Our roll!!

Kim's close turn-out!

I would not get up at 7am on Saturday for nothing other than a breakfast fly-in!! Blake and I went to Pineville this morning for breakfast. It was huge! I am used to our little pancake breakfast fly-in that we do occasionally, but its like 5 old guys and us! There were a ton of planes this morning! The food was great, the planes were awesome, and the fellowship with other pilots was the greatest! A friend of ours and his wife, Chuck and Emily, went and I enjoyed getting to know Emily a lot better. Chuck is now an instrument rated pilot, who also was a student at the flight school I attend in New Iberia, we all had a blast. On the way back, Blake's flying buddy, Kim, flew formation with us a bit, did some rolls for us, and made some head-on passes with us that I captured on video! The video posted is our roll that Blake and I did, you have to watch the background to see us go upside-down. The camera would not let me zoom out anymore. The second video is of Kim flying close and doing a right turn-out. We had a blast, especially the flight home when we were able to cut up a bit!
What a great way to start the day!
